Islamabad, 14 February 2022 (TDI): Dr. Ahmad Vahidi, the Iranian Interior Minister has arrived in Islamabad on a day-long visit today. Upon arrival, he was received by Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, his Pakistani counterpart.

The nine-member Iranian delegation is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of the Pakistani Interior Minister.  Dr. Ahmad Vahidi was received by Minister Sheikh Rasheed and his entourage which included other senior ranking Pakistani officials.

A brief statement was issued by the Ministry of Interior disclosing the Iranian Minister’s engagements during his visit. The Iranian Minister will be meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan as well as other government officials.

Dr. Vahidi and Pakistani officials will discuss issues pertaining to Pak-Iran border management along with the exchange of prisoners. Earlier last year, in October, the neighboring countries had agreed to establish a special committee for the effective implementation of the exchange of prisoners’ program.

The said agreement was finalized between Pakistan and members of the Iran-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group in Majlis (Iranian Parliament). Likewise, the two sides had also deliberated upon suggestions to tackle terrorism as well as.

It is pertinent to note here that the visit of the Interior Minister of Iran follows the visit of Saudi Interior Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef to Pakistan, last week.

The Saudi Prince also met various Pakistani officials as well as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. During his meetings, he affirmed the close brotherly ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

Likewise, he also acknowledged Pakistan’s positive contribution to the development of Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Interior Minister also enunciated resolve to work closely with Pakistan on all matters relating to his Ministry.
