New York, 15 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden exchanged congratulatory letters at a gala dinner in New York. The two leaders underscored the global significance of their relationship.
This is the latest gesture of harmonization between the two states. Xi Jinping sent the letter to the annual National Committee on US-China Relations dinner.
Letter of Chinese President
The Chinese President enunciated that the Sino-US ties are at a critical and historic juncture. Beijing is ready to adopt the principles of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation. He stressed that the US should work with China to improve exchanges and collaboration across the board.
Xi Jinping stated that China is willing to mutually address regional and international issues. The two states can collaborate to tackle the global challenges and should properly manage differences.
China-US Relationship
He highlighted that the China-US relationship is one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world. Both should cooperate to bring the ties back on the track of development. Doing so will benefit both countries. A confrontation between the two will only cause harm, to no end.
Chinese Ambassador to the US
The letter of the Chinese President was read by the Chinese Ambassador to the US; Qin Gang at the gala dinner. Whilst addressing the gathering, Qin said that some people are implying that the relationship cannot return to the past. However, he rejected the statement on behalf of his country. He reiterated that China has a consistent policy towards the US and it handles the relationship strategically.
Letter of US President
On the other hand, the US President in his letter stated that the ties between the two states hold global significance; from tackling climate change to addressing the pandemic crisis. He said that China and US ought to come together to seize opportunities and resolve the global challenges. Eventually, they will play their respective roles to ensure a peaceful, safe, and resilient future.
Jacob Lew, the committee’s chairman, and former US treasury secretary also addressed the event. He expressed satisfaction with the increased pace of government-to-government talks.
Latest Developments
Recently, the two sides have engaged in several meaningful meetings and key contacts. The spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin said that both states are maintaining close communication for the upcoming meeting of the two heads of state. The meeting is scheduled for 16 November 2021.
