Beijing, 9 October 2021 (TDI): On Wednesday 6th, China and the U.S. decided to normalize their relations after the Switzerland meeting that took place in Zurich, Switzerland, as both agreed to manage their relations well.
They attained the agreement during talks between Yang Jiechi, who is a member of China’s Political Bureau, and Jake Sullivan, the U.S. national safety advisor.
However, on October 8, China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian did a regular press conference in which a Chinese local news agency asked him that how did he envision China-US relations after that meeting.
To which Zhao Lijian responded, the meeting was worthwhile towards mutual understanding. He further said that Director Yang Jiechi pointed that America and China need to manage their relations well. Both the countries’ relations will depend on the world’s future and fundamental interests.
China and the United States must cooperate as cooperation between the two countries will bring benefits to all the nations. He added that confrontation can lead to severe consequences. The US must understand China’s foreign, domestic and international policies. China does not want the relations between these two countries to be “competitive”.
He also stated that the US doesn’t want to hinder China’s progress and does not seek a new Cold War. China hopes the US side will adopt a pragmatic and rational China policy. They should respect each other’s core values, major concerns, and seek a path of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
In the spirit of the September 10 telephone call between US and Chinese Presidents, the two sides agreed to take actions to improve strategic communication, manage differences correctly, avoid conflict, seek mutual advantages, and put China-US relations on the right track for settled development.
