Chinese Foreign Minister speaks with Iranian Counterpart

Beijing, 25 November 2021 (TDI): Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

The two counterparts held a virtual meeting on 24 November 2021. They discussed the issues of mutual concern especially the Iranian Nuclear Deal. The Iranian Foreign Minister congratulated China on successfully holding the sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee.

Abdollahian also admired the vision of the Chinese President of the Global Development Initiative. He stated that Iran supports the Chinese vision of formulating a global community based on shared values with shared interests.

Wang Yi stated that the sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee emphasized the achievements of China. He also highlighted the Chinese road to modernization. He stated that China would share its road to success with anyone but it would assist Iran and other countries in their development process.

Chinese Foreign Minister also emphasized that China and Iran are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations. He said that China is committed to working with Iran to oppose the actions of unilateralism in the world and to promote the policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states. The two countries will continue to promote fairness and justice in the international system.

Discussion on Iranian Nuclear Talks

The two counterparts also debated on the Iranian Nuclear Talks. Chinese Foreign Minister appreciated the Iranian decision to restart the Vienna Talks commonly known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

China also appreciated the Iranian invitation to the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Mariano Grossi to visit Iran. He said that this Iranian decision gives a positive signal to the world. He assured his Iranian counterpart that China will not support any unilateral action in the talks. The Iranian Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to China for playing an important role in resuming the Vienna talks.

Wang Yi expressed gratitude to Iran for supporting the Chinese vision of the Global Development Initiative. China will continue to help Iran in its social and economic development. He also stated that China will provide another batch of vaccines to Iran to help it in its fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

Abdollahian stated that China and Iran have strengthened their cooperation in the pandemic. The two countries have overcome the challenges of the pandemic by working together, he added. He thanked the Chinese government for its announcement of providing another batch of vaccines to Iran. He stated that this will further strengthen bilateral relations.

The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that Iran strongly opposes unilateral decisions and bullying in the world. He expressed the Iranian support for the One-China policy. Abdollahian emphasized that Iran condemns interference in the internal affairs of China. He conveyed good luck to China for the forthcoming Beijing Olympics. Abdollahian also denounced the acts of politicization of sports by the West.

The Chinese Foreign Minister with his Iranian counterpart also discussed regional as well as international affairs. They also debated on the recent developments in Afghanistan. They agreed to enhance cooperation to assist the Afghans in this humanitarian crisis.
