Chinese Envoy met Taliban delegation in Kabul


Kabul, 25 August 2021 (TDI): According to the spokesman for the Political Office of the Taliban in Doha, the Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu met the Taliban delegation in Kabul. Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Deputy Head of the Political Affairs for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was also a part of the delegation.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the recent Afghanistan situation, bilateral relations between China and Afghanistan, and humanitarian aid to stabilize the current situation. The matter of security for the Chinese embassy and diplomats located in Afghanistan was also discussed in the meeting.

Wang Wenbin, MFA China spokesperson, in a press conference, answered the question about the meetup where he underlined the stance of China on Afghanistan. He mentioned that China has always been a staunch advocate of non-intervention policy and the ‘Afghan-owned and Afghan-led’ principle and reaffirmed that it will always support the people of Afghanistan to implement this principle.

Wang also mentioned that Kabul is a vital conduit and platform for both parties to address all sorts of critical matters. ‘China is ready to develop friendly relations with Afghanistan and to play a positive role in achieving peace and reconstruction in Afghanistan’, said Wang.
