Nuku’alofa, 28 August 2021 (TDI): Cao Xiaolin, the Chinese Ambassador to Tonga, in his article drew the attention of the world to surging COVID-19 cases all around the globe. He emphasized the need for unity among the states for combating the deadly virus. For that, he suggested building up strong connections in the international community for two purposes. First, the provision of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide, second, the eradication of the virus through scientifically and globally tracing the origin of COVID-19.

In the article, the diplomat highlighted the importance of vaccines and underlined the issues faced in the availability of vaccines. According to the Chinese envoy, the problems are “insufficient vaccine production capacity, inequitable distribution and uneven vaccination” and these are increasing the immunization gap between states.

Xiaolin also wrote about the contribution of China to combat the virus globally such as China’s aim to deliver 2 billion COVID-19 vaccines to different countries in the year 2021. He also expressed his happiness that Tonga remained COVID-19 free up till now.
