Beijing, 5 June 2024 (TDI): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has provided more details about China’s steadfast stance on the Ukraine crisis. He has emphasized that China will never give up on pursuing peace.
Along with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these statements on Tuesday in Beijing.
Wang stated, “China also supports and encourages all global initiatives and efforts that are conducive to easing the situation and achieving peace.”
Moreover, Wang also stated that China values Switzerland’s efforts in organizing the Summit on Peace in Ukraine and has frequently made helpful recommendations to the Swiss side, to which the Swiss side has consistently responded favorably and shown gratitude.
“The world is full of summits these days. China would determine on its own, following its perspective, whether and how to engage, Wang emphasized.
Celso Amorim, the president of Brazil’s special advisor, met with Wang Yi in Beijing on May 23. Six points of agreement were achieved after a thorough discussion between the two parties about urging a political solution to the Ukraine crisis and deescalating the situation.
Wang stated that China thinks the international community needs to speak out about the Ukraine crisis with greater objectivity, balance, positivity, and constructiveness. To this end, China and Brazil recently released the “Common Understandings Between China and Brazil on Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis.” Thus, clarifying China’s steadfast stance on the Ukraine crisis.
Within seven days, a total of 45 countries from five different continents provided their positive replies to the “six shared understandings” through various means. Out of them, 26 have formally declared their intention to join or are actively contemplating the process.
Wang stated that Russia and Ukraine have also verified the majority of the information contained in these six agreed understandings.
Thus, this further exemplifies how these six fundamental principles fulfill the requirements of the majority of nations. Wang suggests that China believes that the probability of a peaceful summit would be higher if more states support these six shared understandings.
During their conversation with Fidan, Wang emphasized that the strategic cooperation relationship between China and Turkey has shown potential and maintained the momentum for rapid growth.
Additionally, He stated that China appreciates Türkiye’s understanding of and endorsement of its rightful stances on crucial matters concerning its security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Furthermore, China is ready to sustain multi-tiered dialogues and expand the scope of collaboration with Türkiye.
Lastly, Fidan affirmed Turkey’s adherence to the One-China principle and its zero-tolerance stance towards any activities that jeopardize China’s security and sovereignty within Turkish territory. Additionally, he said that Turkey highly appreciates China’s rational and unbiased position regarding issues such as the Middle East and Ukraine.
