We have reached a principled decision to amend the Allowances and Salaries Act, of 1975 for both federal ministers and ministers of state. The amendment will concentrate on clause three of the Act, which pertains to ministerial salaries.
Currently, the salary of a federal minister is Rs200,000, while that of a minister of state is Rs180,000. In addition to these salaries, additional allowances for vehicles, offices, and other benefits are provided.
Moreover, ministers are anticipated to receive a substantial salary increase after the amendment.
It is crucial to acknowledge that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently authorized a substantial salary increase for parliamentarians, despite critics’ objections to the proposed increase.
The government justified the raise by comparing it to the salaries of federal secretaries, even though it corresponded to an approximately 300% increase.
Following the prime minister’s sanction, the National Assembly Speaker, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, had announced the increase. Additionally, it was discovered that parliamentarians had already received their revised January salaries.
