Manila, (TDI): The Philippines House of Representatives has impeached Vice President Sara Duterte with a significant number of signed complaints by 150 lawmakers on February 5, 2025.
VP Sara Duterte is accused of misusing public funds and reserves, violating the Constitution, and betraying public trust.
The impeachment complaint was first filed on December 19, 2024, by various lawyers, workers, and civil society members, claiming she was involved in corruption and bribery during her time as a Mayor at Davao City, Philippines.
Contrary to this, VP Duterte has denied all accusations against her, calling that the impeachment was politically involved in removing her from office. She previously said that if she were impeached, it would be “the end” for her.

Moreover, Senate President Chiz Escudero did not state any statement on the rumors that the House of Representatives is ready to send impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte to the Senate for further progress.
House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said,
“The impeachment rap in question was the fourth complaint against Vice President Duterte”
Further, he added,
“It will be presented to the plenary and once it is approved, transmitted to the Senate. Of course, she has to be tried by the Senate”
This impeachment comes after a growing conflict between Duterte and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The tension increased when Duterte made a controversial remark about hiring an assassin to kill Marcos if she were to be assassinated.
She later claimed her words were misunderstood. Marcos has said he does not support her impeachment but cannot interfere with the process.
