China’s proposal at the high-level debate on Climate Change

New York, 28 October 2021 (TDI): The Permanent Representative of China to the UN, Zhang Jun has delivered four major points on global climate change cooperation at a high-level debate in the United Nations General Assembly.

The Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jun has highlighted the core objectives of climate change which enhance the global cooperation of all countries that would make the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP26) more successful. 

According to the first point in the proposal, it is necessary to focus on the UN framework Convention first that should be considered as the main channel in global climate governance. Zhang Jun said that we need to implement the objectives of the Paris Agreement in a very comprehensive manner. 

Secondly, he said that all parties should have to emphasize the initiatives of Adoption and implementation of the commitments of climate change and they should have moved beyond the political rhetoric and slogans. 

The third point of the proposal focused on the principle that countries should do their maximum on climate initiatives. On the other hand, Powerful countries need to address the capacity building of developing countries because they are already facing severe circumstances of COVID-19 pandemic and poverty eradication. 

Fourthly, Zhang Jun said all countries need to intensify the green transformation in several fields including the energy and agriculture sector.
