China a Reliable UN Partner: Xi

Tianjin (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday reaffirmed that China will remain a dependable partner of the United Nations during his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Xi emphasized that China is ready to enhance its cooperation with the UN, back the organization’s central role in global affairs, and work together to safeguard peace while advancing development and prosperity worldwide.

He noted that history has shown multilateralism, unity, and cooperation to be the right path for addressing common global challenges. Guterres is in Tianjin to take part in the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

Over the years, China has strengthened its role within the UN framework, from being one of the largest contributors to peacekeeping missions to expanding its financial support for UN operations.

Beijing has repeatedly stressed that global governance must be built on dialogue and inclusiveness rather than unilateral actions.

China has also worked closely with the UN on climate change, poverty reduction, and public health initiatives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Beijing coordinated with UN agencies to provide medical supplies, vaccines, and humanitarian aid to dozens of countries in need.

Looking ahead, both sides have agreed to deepen their collaboration under the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with a focus on promoting green growth, digital cooperation, and equitable international development that benefits all nations.
