Xi said that China and the Maldives have supported each other since the establishment of diplomatic ties and have set an example for achieving equality, mutual benefits, and win-win results between a large and a small country. He added that both sides should enhance mutual support on multilateral occasions, safeguard fairness and justice of the international community and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Solih said that Maldives appreciates China’s support for multilateralism, such as at WHO and China’s calling for and practice of strengthening international unity and cooperation. He affirmed support for the one-China principle and said that the Maldives is ready to take the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year as an opportunity to promote closer bilateral ties, jointly build the Belt and Road Initiative and improve coordination on multilateral affairs.
