Xi Jinping held phone call with Ashraf Ghani

Beijing: 18 July 2021 (TDI):  Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone call with the President of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and stated that while the two countries have been good friends for a long, cooperation and friendship between the two grew stronger during the pandemic.

Xi offered to help Afghanistan to fight against the pandemic and mentioned that China hopes that Afghanistan keeps the Chinese citizens and organizations located in Afghanistan protected.

Xi while talking about the current situation in Afghanistan mentioned that China supports the measures that are taken by the current Afghan government to defend national sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. He also cleared China’s stance for the ‘Afghan-led, Afghan-owned’ principle. He said that China expects that the Afghan people and their needs will be prioritized while finding the political solution to the current problems. China will play a positive part in this process.

Ghani for his part appreciated the efforts of China in combating the Coronavirus and thanked Xi on behalf of Afghanistan for lending full support to the state to fight against the deadly virus. In relevance to the current scenario in Afghanistan, Ghani mentioned that the current Afghan government is keen to bring stability and peace to Afghanistan by finding the right political solution to the crisis.

He appreciated China‘s role in regional cooperation and said for sustaining regional security and stability, China has always been a significant and constructive player. In its effort to achieve the political solution to the Afghan question, Afghanistan hopes that China will continue to play an important role.
