Beijing, 27 May 2023 (TDI): Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Li Shangfu and Vice Prime Minister and Defence Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Jean-Pierre Bemba had a meeting in Beijing. Both agreed to strengthen the military cooperation between China and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

During the meeting, Li spoke highly of bilateral military cooperation in different sectors and further added that both countries are pleased to step up to upgrade their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Bemba, on his part, highlighted the notable strengthening of friendship between the two countries, emphasizing that the DRC is committed to maintaining and furthering military cooperation with China.

This meeting between the two defense ministers took place during DRC’s President Felix Tshisekedi’s state visit to China.

As a matter of fact, in 2015, China and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) also established a strategic partnership aimed at achieving mutually beneficial cooperation, setting the stage for further advancements in bilateral relations.
