Beijing, 23 November 2021 (TDI): China has welcomed the political agreement by the Sudanese parties.
The military coup in Sudan in October resulted in political turmoil in the country. The United States and the United Nations jointly mediated on the dire situation in Sudan with the coup leader. Due to the increase in pro-democratic protests in Sudan, the military coup leader released the civilian Prime Minister.
The Political Agreement
On Sunday, 21 November 2021, the coup leader, Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan signed an agreement for the release of Abdallah Hamdok and for the establishment of the interim government in Sudan. Burhan announced that free and fair elections will be held as soon as possible under the transition process of Sudan. The agreement was signed as a result of an increase in hostilities leading to the deaths of protestors. It ended a month-long confrontation between the two sides.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian in his regular press conference on 22 November appreciated the political agreement between the political parties of Sudan. He stated that China supports national solidarity and integrity. National integrity is very important for the stability and prosperity of a country, he added.

China to help Sudan in its transitional phase
Zhao stated that China is committed to forming a shared global community based on shared values with shared interests. Therefore, it will cooperate with the international community to help Sudan in its transition process. China will try to help Sudan by every means possible.
China and Sudan enjoy good relations. It is working in the African continent under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). China is committed to assisting its African partners in their time of need. Sudan which is facing political turmoil and instability needs some positive energy. Hence China stated that it will provide Sudan the assistance required in its transition phase. Chinese support to Sudan will help it in its transitional period.
