Islamabad, 14 September 2022(TDI): Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau announced that Canada will provide an additional $25 million in response to the devastation caused by flooding in Pakistan. The aid will also be used to support development projects in the nation.

Moreover, Canada will continue to assist the Pakistani people by supporting the longer-term development requirements.
In response to the flooding in Pakistan, Justin Trudeau announced that the Canadian government will correspond donations to the Humanitarian Coalition. Individual contributions to the Humanitarian Coalition and its members will be corresponded up to $3 million through September 28, 2022.
The donations, raised through Canadians, will aid the humanitarian coalition and its members in providing life-saving services. The services would include emergency food and nutrition assistance, emergency cash and vouchers, and vital water, sanitation, and health services.

Visit by Minister of International Development
Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, is wrapping up a visit to Pakistan. During his visit, he observed the ongoing humanitarian response in the flood affected areas.

Iqra Khalid, Member of Parliament for Mississauga, Member of Parliament for Scarborough Centre, Salma Zahid, and Shafqat Ali, Member of Parliament for Brampton Centre, accompanied the Minister on his journey.
To boost polio eradication efforts in Pakistan, Minister Sajjan made a $20 million contribution to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) via the World Health Organization and UNICEF. Furthermore, this contribution contributes to Canada’s continuous commitment of $190 million to the GPEI.
Since mid-June, Pakistan has witnessed strong monsoon rains and flooding. The rains have resulted in over 1,300 deaths and disrupted the livelihoods of nearly 33 million people.
More than six million individuals are anticipated to require assistance. Several hundred thousand homes have been destroyed. Additionally, livelihoods, livestock, and crops are badly impacted.
