Islamabad, 8 January 2022 (TDI): On 7 December 2022, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan, General Qamar Javed Bajwa met with the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Dr. Christian Turner at General Headquarters in Islamabad.

According to the statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations, the British High Commissioner lauded the efforts of Pakistan for the purpose of peace in the region especially in the situation of Afghanistan.

Both officials further underscored the matters of mutual concern, the prospects of regional security, developmental dimensions of the region including the stability in Afghanistan and enhancing bilateral cooperation in multiple fields.

During the meeting, the COAS expressed the views of Pakistan regarding the role of the United Kingdom in regional and global affairs and mentioned that Pakistan values the efforts of the United Kingdom in this respect.

While portraying the intensity of the grave situation of Afghanistan, he added that Pakistan looks forward to global convergence to conceal the developed cracks on the Afghan sheet and to soothe the bleeding humanity in Afghanistan.

He mentioned that Pakistan, in an era of inter-connectedness, attaches its utmost hopes with Giant states, especially the UK for coordinated and collective support to uplift the economy of Afghanistan and to bring harmony in the region.

The COAS also highlighted the significance of regional peace and stability, to formulate policies to prevent the increasing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan with the support of the global community. The visiting dignitary pledged to play an active and supportive role to enhance diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at different levels.

Earlier, the British High Commissioner met with the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and discussed the ways to expand bilateral cooperation through savvy diplomacy and a multidimensional approach.
