New York, 10 September 2021(TDI): United Nation Security Council briefing session on Afghanistan happened on 9th-September 2021. The session took place in New York.

Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ms. Deborah Lyons address the session. The main agenda of the session was to discuss the ongoing situation in Afghanistan.

Addressing the UNSC, SG’s Special Representative Ms. Deborah Lyons requested the United Nations for cohesive leadership. SG’s Special Representative for Afghanistan requested the Member States and the international community for collective management.

While addressing the UNSC session of Afghanistan, SG’s Special Representative mentioned the fear and pressures UN personnel feel in Afghanistan. Ms. Deborah Lyons requested the UNSC that in the recent situation UN role must be built on their benevolent imperative.

SG’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ms. Deborah Lyons during her speech to UNSC ask for immediate humanitarian aid. Essential like health, food security, non-food items, and sanitation is the pressing need of displaced Afghans, she added.

Warning the Security Council for the far deeper crisis in Afghanistan, SG’s Special Representative for Afghanistan requested the Security Council for their immediate assistance and unified Leadership.

ty to extend her gratitude to Turkey and Qatar for restoring the Hamid Karzai International Airport to ensure the smooth flow of Commercial Flights.

SG’s Special Representative for Afghanistan also acknowledged the Government of Kazakhstan. Hosting the UN satellite office to support Humanitarian work in Afghanistan was appreciated.
