Boris Johnson Met With Brazilian President in New York

New York, 21 September 2021 (TDI): Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the meeting between Brazil’s President Jair Messias Bolsonaro, and Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, on Monday. The officials met in New York ahead of the 76th United Nations General Assembly session, opening Tuesday.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlos França accompanied President Bolsonaro during his meeting with Boris Johnson in New York. The officials emphasized their mutual interests during the session, especially strengthening the economic and trade relations between Brazil and the United Kingdom. President Bolsonaro and Prime Minister Johnson also discussed cooperation within the International Religious Freedom or Belief Alliance, besides talking about the vaccination programs of both states. With that, Boris Johnson expressed support for the Brazilian claim for a permanent seat at the UN security council. Both countries were present at the 76th United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting took place in the margins of the UN General Assembly, New York, ahead of the 76th United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week, officially beginning today. During the meeting, President Bolsonaro expressed Brazil’s commitment to sustainable development, in preparation for the next UN Conference on Climate Change, soon to be held in the United Kingdom. Similarly, Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed solidarity towards Brazil’s claim for a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council.
