Blinken Met with Dominican Republic Foreign Minister

Washington D.C., 30 September 2021 (TDI): On Tuesday, the US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken welcomed the Dominican Republic’s Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez at the State Department, Washington D.C. The officials aimed to strengthen the bilateral relationship between America and the Dominican Republic.

During the meeting in Washington, Secretary Blinken commended the Dominican Republic’s democratic values and traditions, particularly its determination for improving the human rights and democracy situation in South and North America. He also lauded the Dominican Republic’s reforms aimed at promoting rule of law, greater transparency, and ensuring human rights. The Dominican Republic’s Foreign Minister Alvarez expressed great pleasure over the meeting with US State Secretary and committed to working with the United States to resolve multiple issues, including corruption, authoritarianism, and human rights abuses across the world.

The two leaders further discussed ways to align their mutual interests in the region. Blinken stated that the Dominican Republic and the USA comprise a vibrant and diverse economy, which further increases the potential for trade and investment between the two nations. He appreciated the Dominican Republic’s leadership, particularly with respect to combating corruption and setting a standard for other states.
