Biden-Ghani talked on phone

Kabul: July 24, 2021- (TDI):  Today, U.S President  Biden spoke over a phone call with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. Both Presidents address the situation in Afghanistan and reassert their dedication to a long-term bilateral partnership. They also highlighted the two countries’ changing but ongoing relationship. Biden and Ghani both agreed that the current onslaught of Taliban contradicts their claim to favor a diplomatic end of the conflict. Both emphasized the significance of Afghans working together for peace and security. They reaffirmed continued diplomatic and economic support for the Afghan government and security forces.

President Biden highlighted that the United States will continue to support the Afghan people through development and humanitarian aid. He underlined the US resolve to continue assisting Afghan security forces in defending themselves. Biden also urged Afghan authorities to continue working for unity on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the ideals upon which it is founded.

The two leaders acknowledged the necessity of Afghans banding together to promote their common interests. This development is significant in the context of the United States’ ongoing diplomatic involvement in favor of a long-term and just political settlement in Afghanistan.
