Baku, 22 November 2022 (TDI): The Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan approved the proposal to establish a representative office in the state of Palestine.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, the decision was accepted by the Azerbaijani parliament as a demonstration of the nation’s support for Palestine.

Riyad Al-Maliki, the Foreign Minister of Palestine, praised the decision. He considered it a victory for Palestinian diplomacy on the path to the creation of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Minister stated that this step will increase the bilateral relations between the two states.

Azerbaijan Palestine Relations

Official diplomatic ties between the two nations were established in 1992 when Palestine established a non-resident presence in Azerbaijan. On June 29, 2011, President Mahmoud Abbas formally opened the State of Palestine’s Embassy in Baku.

While visiting Azerbaijan, Riyad al-Maliki stated that both countries should cooperate as they try to recover their territorial Integrity.

The Foreign Ministers of Palestine and Azerbaijan also signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations. The Minister appreciated the hospitality there.

In April 2018, Riyad al-Maliki stated that the Palestinians support Azerbaijan’s stance in the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh dispute. On November 5, 2018, Azerbaijan hosted a meeting of the State of Palestine’s Ambassadors in Asia.

In July 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov met the Ambassador of Palestine, Nasir Abdulkarim Abdurrahman. Both expressed confidence that both states will continue to develop cooperation.

In 2022, On the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Palestine, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry organized a ceremony. The Ambassadors of both States attended the event.

Moreover, strategic ties exist between the two nations, and they mutually support one another on a number of global concerns. The parties have also come to agreements about the enhancement of relations in several areas.
