Baku, 6 September 2022 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, had a telephone conversation with the US Assistant Secretary of the State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Karen Donfried.
The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs discussed the regional situation during the telephone conversation. Moreover, the two sides discussed the efforts to normalize the bilateral agenda and relations.

Discussion during the Call
During the call, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan referenced the meeting between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of the European Council Charles Michel, and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan that took place in Brussels on August 31, 2022.
Foreign Minister Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan was ready to carry out the directions given to draft texts of the peace treaty. Further, Bayramov also informed the US Assistant Secretary that Azerbaijan has consistently worked to advance the peace agenda.
In addition, the two sides discussed issues of shared interests, including the bilateral cooperation agenda.
Azerbaijan-US relations
On December 25, 1991, the US formally recognized Azerbaijan’s independence. Meanwhile, on February 28, 1992, both states established diplomatic ties. The US established its embassy in Azerbaijan on March 6, 1992. Whereas, Azerbaijan established its embassy in the United States on March 16, 1992.
According to the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan, “Partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States is based on equality, mutual respect, and history of successful cooperation on energy security, peacekeeping operations, counterterrorism, and other areas.”
Both states have signed about 86 documents. Moreover, both countries have formed the necessary normative and legal framework for cooperation.
Since 1993, both states exchange high-level bilateral visits as well as meetings and visits within the scope of international organizations. Heydar Aliyev, the late President of Azerbaijan, visited the US on the country’s first official trip in 1997.
Furthermore, Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, paid a working visit to the US in March of last year.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs visited the US in September to attend the UN General Assembly’s annual session. Prior to it, in October 2020, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also travelled to the US for business.
