Canberra, 30 August 2022 (TDI): The Government of Australia has announced to provide $2 million to Pakistan amidst devastating floods all across the country.
The Foreign Minister of Australia, Penny Wong, announced in a press release the urgent humanitarian assistance to Pakistan in the light of recent severe floods that have devasted Pakistan. Pakistan has declared the floods a national emergency with over more than 33 million flood victims.
Additionally, more than 1300 lives have been lost with 702,100 livestock killed and 224,100 damaged homes. Moreover, due to the devasting floods, 215,997 people are in relief camps.
In the press release, the Foreign Minister of Australia extended her deepest sympathies and condolences to the flood victims. In addition, Foreign Minister Wong also sent condolences to the communities and families that have lost their loved ones during this national emergency.
Moreover, Foreign Minister Wong added that Australia’s support will be delivered through the World Food Programme to assist the Government of Pakistan in providing humanitarian assistance, especially to those disproportionally affected by flood including women, children and the vulnerable.
Flood Relief in Pakistan
Amidst the devasting floods in Pakistan, several members of the international community have demonstrated support and solidarity for Pakistan by providing urgent humanitarian assistance. The Chinese Foreign Minister announced USD 300,000 in emergency cash assistance along with 25,000 tents and other supplies in need to the flood affectees.
Moreover, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KS Relief) announced that it will transport 100 emergency relief trucks carrying 950 tonnes of basic food supplies to be distributed in the affected districts of Pakistan.
Furthermore, Belgium announced emergency relief in the form of 300 family tents to Pakistan which can provide shelter to 1800 people. Additionally, the United Kingdom, Iran, Palestine and the United Arab Emirates also demonstrated solidarity with Pakistan during the nationwide floods.
Local and international organizations are also working round the clock to provide relief and urgent humanitarian assistance to the flood-affectees.
