Ambassador urges Pakistani diaspora to help amid floods

Washington DC, 12 September 2022 (TDI): Ambassador Masood Khan, the Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States (US) apprised the Pakistani-American entrepreneurs on the major threats posed by irregular climate change to nations around the world.

He stated that “The recent flood and the massive devastation in Pakistan is a consequence of climate change. This phenomenon is going to grow whether it is Pakistan or any other countries in South Asia or the world.”

He enunciated that today it is Pakistan, but tomorrow it could be another country. Likewise, he also lauded Ambreen Mirza, President of the Organization of Pakistani Entrepreneurs (OPEN) Global for hosting the event.

Furthermore, he described Ambreen Mirza as a creative leader who has injected new vitality into OPEN Global. The Ambassador updated the charter members of OPEN Global on the flood situation in Pakistan and its impact on Pakistan’s education sector.

Masood Khan detailed the damage wrought by the flood that inundated one-third of the country. He informed the audience that over 1400 people had died in Pakistan.

Over 13,000 people have been hurt. Flooding has affected a population of 33 million people. Approximately 6.6 million individuals required emergency assistance.

“The flood situation in Pakistan would be a big setback for our students who already suffered during COVID pandemic days”, he stated.

Further, along these lines, he requested the Pakistani-American entrepreneurs for their focus, energy, and investments in the education sector of Pakistan.

The Pakistani Envoy also updated the participants on the Pak-US education collaboration.
In the same vein, Fiza Shah, CEO of Developments in Literacy (DIL), informed the participants about her organization’s efforts to improve education in Pakistan.

She stated that DIL has been working in Pakistan since 1997, impacting around 300,000 kids and training approximately 20,000 instructors.

DIL was also working on curriculum development in Pakistan, collaborating with both the public and commercial sectors. “The work being done by DIL under the able leadership of Ms.

Lastly, in response to the participants’ support, solidarity, and humanitarian aid to Pakistan as we struggle with the effects of the tragic floods, Ambassador Masood Khan expressed his gratitude.

In addition, Ambreen Mirza also thanked the Pakistani Ambassador and the other attendees for their insightful comments. She pledged OPEN Global’s complete support to Pakistan as it deals with the disaster.
