Rawalpindi, 21 October 2022 (TDI): The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan, Qamar Javed Bajwa, at the General Head Quarters (GHQ) on Thursday.

Both parties discussed matters of mutual interest, bilateral defense, and security cooperation during the meeting. Moreover, they also discussed the security situation in the region.

Ambassador’s Remarks

The Ambassador of UAE, Hamad Obaid Al-Zaabi, expressed his grief over the devastation caused by floods in Pakistan. Moreover, he also offered sincere condolences to the families of the victims.

He hoped for early rehabilitation of the flood-affected people. Al-Zaabi also appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for regional stability.

He pledged to play his role in further improvement of diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels. The Ambassador said that the leadership of UAE will continue to assist Pakistan in all possible fields.

Remarks by COAS

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, said that Pakistan valued Emirate’s role in global and regional affairs. He further said that Pakistan looked forward to enhancing its bilateral relationship with UAE.

The COAS also acknowledged the extraordinary support provided by the UAE government for the flood-affected people of Pakistan. During the meeting, both parties agreed to further enhance cordial relations and enduring strategic partnership.

Bilateral Relations

Both countries have enjoyed close brotherly relations since the independence of the UAE. Pakistan was the first country to recognize the United Arab Emirates.

The bilateral trade between Pakistan and the UAE increased by 25.40 percent during 2021-22 as compared to 2020-21. Moreover, a great number of Pakistani people also live and work in the UAE.

The successive leaders of both countries have also played important roles in strengthening the bilateral relationship.

Pakistan offered great investment opportunities to the UAE’s investors in various sectors including infrastructure development, power generation, water management, and agriculture industries.
