Islamabad, 12 August 2022 (TDI): Ambassador of Brazil to Pakistan, Olyntho Vieira called on the Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani at Parliament House.
During the meeting, matters pertaining to mutual interest, including bilateral relations, were discussed. Moreover, Chairman Senate expressed condolences on the death of the wife of the Brazilian Ambassador.
The agenda of the meeting was to deliberate on ways to further boost bilateral relations. Sadiq Sanjrani underscored that Pakistan and Brazil have deep-rooted strong ties.
Likewise, trade relations between the two countries as well as outstanding collaboration in multilateral forums are commendable.
Chairman Senate also enunciated to further promote bilateral relations with Brazil in all fields including political, economic, and defense.
He highlighted that Parliamentary Friendship Groups can play an important role in strengthening people-to-people contacts between the two countries through dialogue.
Along these lines, promoting high-level exchanges between the two countries will further strengthen relations between the two countries.
Brazil is Pakistan’s major trading partner in South America. The volume of bilateral trade between the two countries is around 1.3 billion US dollars, which can be further increased.
There are investment opportunities for Brazil in dairy, beef and poultry, halal sector, pharmaceutical, agriculture as well as IT sectors. Sadiq Sanjrani stated that Pakistan wants to collaborate with Brazil in the agriculture and technology sectors.
Pakistan’s trade system and a large consumer market provide better economic opportunities for Brazilian businessmen, which they should benefit from. Aside from that, enhancing people-to-people contacts and delegates were also discussed.
Brazil–Pakistan Relations
Brazil–Pakistan relations have been mutually beneficial. Brazil maintains an Embassy in Islamabad while Pakistan maintains an Embassy in Brasília.
Brazil approved the sale of 100 MAR-1 anti-radiation missiles to Pakistan, in 2009, despite India’s pressure on Brazil not to do so.
Pakistan and Brazil have had a bilateral trade agreement since 1982. Brazil wishes to increase trade volume with Pakistan. Munawar Iqbal is the current President of the Brazil-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce in Brazil.
Brazil encourages the growth of Pakistan’s agricultural sector. Brazil’s advanced agricultural technologies are assisting Pakistan in developing its agriculture sector.
