Dubai, 28 February 2022 (TDI): African Union celebrated Africa Honour Day on 27 February. The Honour Day official ceremony was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

African Union representatives, Emirati people, and the African diaspora in UAE joined the ceremony. African Union arranged the event on its 20th Anniversary.

Likewise, AU arranged the event at Dubai Expo 2020. Emirati Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, and Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Monique Nsanzabaganwa, attended the event.

Activities on Honour Day

Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Monique Nsanzabaganwa, also performed the flag-raising ceremony of the African Union. Speaking at the ceremony, Monique Nsanzabaganwa talked about the unity of the African people.

She said, “We are a united people whose history is far-reaching and life-changing, embracing our stories – the ugly and the good, the nostalgic and the awe-inspiring.”

Talking about the African Union on its 20th Anniversary, she said, “Reflecting back on two successful decades of implementing programmes that have continued to change the lives of our brothers and sisters, changing the course of our continent towards that of shared prosperity, peace and sustainability.”

Likewise, she talked about the role of Africans in two decades in the development and prosperity of the continent. Moreover, a concert on the event was held under the title of “Colours of Africa”.

Likewise, African artists, poets, and dancers performed at the event. Adelle, a Kenyan Poet and activist, spread the verses ‘From East to West. Also, Adam, a guitarist from Niger, played a cultural Tuareg song at the event.

Moreover, Kina Ku Moxi and his team from Angola concluded the day with captivating and energetic traditional dance, chants and singing.

African Union: A Profile 

African Union is an intergovernmental organization of 55 African Countries. It was founded in 2002. Its headquarter is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

AU promotes solidarity, coordination, and defending African countries’ sovereignty. Moreover, AU eradicates colonialism and enhances economic coordination among African countries.
