Kabul, 11 August 2021 (TDI): Mitchell Bachelet, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, advised about the existing situation in Afghanistan, saying that efforts to control ongoing violence and human rights violations would have dire effects on the country.
Ms. Bacheleh highlighted violations of women’s, and prisoners of war rights, as well as extrajudicial killings and the imposition of needless prohibitions on leaving their homes in Taliban-controlled areas. It asserts social justice and adherence to international humanitarian law.
Ms. Bacheleh also urged the regional and the international community to support and end the war in Afghanistan and make every effort to reduce conflicts, resolve the war, and restart the peace process.
The State Department encouraged the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ statement on human rights violations, particularly the Taliban’s violations of the rights of women, prisoners of war, and its legitimate stance and demand for social justice.
