ADB provides $2 billion under a three-year plan

Islamabad, 2 October 2021 (TDI): ADB Pakistan shared the news that Asian Development Bank will provide $2 billion under a three-year plan to Pakistan. The news was originally published in the Express Tribune and ADB Pakistan shares the link.

According to that news, the statement issued by the Finance Ministry, ADB’s Country Director for Pakistan Yong Ye discussed matters of bilateral interest on a call with Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin. Furthermore, the Finance Minister said that efforts were afoot to reform the power sector, whilst the boost in tariffs has proved profitable.

He added that “the government is committed to sustainable economic growth and increasing productivity. Through the Economic Advisory Council (EAC), the short, medium, and long-term plans are being designed”. Reforms are being built in 14 sectors of the economy by the EAC and under the Kamyab Pakistan Programme, more schemes will be announced for the downtrodden section of society.

However, Yong Ye said, “For the Vaccine Support Programme of ADB $500 million had been approved for Pakistan from which $314 million is already been distributed”. He further added that the Asian Development Bank will provide $2 billion in 3 years under a three-year programme.
