Moscow, 17 November 2022 (TDI): Moscow hosted the fourth Meeting of Moscow Format of Consultations on Afghanistan on 16th November.

The officials from Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan participated in the meeting.

While special representatives from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and UAE were present as guests. However, the Taliban did not attend the meeting.

On October 20, 2021, the Moscow Consultative Format on Afghanistan had its previous meeting. A team from the Taliban led by Deputy Prime Minister, Abdul Salam Hanafi attended that meeting.

In that meeting, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister requested that the international community recognize the Taliban’s provisional administration. He also pledged that Afghanistan won’t pose a threat to other countries.

Discussions at the Fourth meeting

In the meeting, the participants discussed security issues and current developments related to Afghanistan. The participants showed concerns about the necessity of removing terrorists, & drugs, and agreed to counter the other threats from the country.

To represent the interests of major ethnopolitical groups, the creation of an inclusive government was also emphasized. Moreover, the participants unitedly demanded the release of assets of Afghanistan from Washington.

They also urged to make up for the damage done to the people of Afghanistan during the presence 20 years of military presence of the United States and NATO.

The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov also shared White Book in the meeting presenting the civilian casualties in Afghanistan as a result of the US and its allies’ unlawful acts.

The participants decided to keep working together under the supervision of the Moscow Format of Consultations on Afghanistan and other effective institutions.
