Rabat, 10 November 2022 (TDI): The third Euro Mediterranean Migration V (EUROMED) conference was held in the capital of Morocco on Wednesday.
This is a two-day conference being held from 9-10 November under the theme of “Multilateral Migration Partnerships for Sustainable Development in the Euro-Mediterranean Region.”
The aim of the conference is to strengthen the cooperation between European Union (EU) member states and partner countries in the Mediterranean region and to explain migration-related challenges.

Almost 120 participants from 23 countries comprising Sweden, Austria, Jordan, Malta, and Egypt are participating, among others. These also include representatives from global organizations and institutions.
Addressing the opening session of the conference, the Director General of Political Affairs at Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Yazourh recognized Morocco’s efforts to address migration issues, saying that it’s among the country’s top priorities.
While talking about the aim of the conference, Michael Spindelegger, Director General of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) said “it discusses what could be done for partnership in migration.”
He declared the timing of the conference perfect and explained the current global situation in regard to migration while mentioning the ongoing war in Ukraine.
In this vein, he said that the “Ukrainian refugee crisis is the largest refugee crisis in Europe since the end of the Second World War.”
Addressing the work being done by the EU and neighboring countries in migration challenges he emphasized that the current efforts “can never be enough.”
Spindelegger highlighted the importance of the conference by saying that events like the EUROMED Migration Conference give the opportunity to listen to the problems of other countries and to contribute to the solutions in the future.
During her turn, the Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco, Patricia Llombart underlined the position of Morocco as a Strategic Partner, especially in questions related to migration.
What is EUROMED Migration?
EUROMED Migration is an EU-funded program implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). It consists of 27 member states of the EU.
The purpose is to support EU Member States and the European Southern Neighborhood Partner Countries (SPCs) in establishing right-based migration governance systems through Dialogue, Knowledge, and Communications.
