22nd Anniversary of Macao’s return to China

Macao, 20 December 2021 (TDI): Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) celebrates the 22nd anniversary of Macao’s return to China, today. Macao SAR returned to China on 20 December 1999.

The government of Macao SAR held a reception to commemorate the day. A flag hoisting ceremony was also hosted on the occasion.

The Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, Ho Iat Seng addressed the reception. He stated that Macao will continue to complete and build enforcement mechanisms and legal systems for safeguarding the national security to ensure long-term stability as well as prosperity.

The Macao SAR firmly implements the principles of “one country, two systems” as well as “Macao people administering Macao”. It will endeavor to maintain a high degree of autonomy, earnestly safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests. Moreover, Macao aims to enhance the national consciousness and patriotism of the nation.

Furthermore, the Macao SAR government will implement the tasks and targets set in the policy address for 2022 along with its second five-year plan (2021-2025). In addition to that, it will promote steady economic recovery along with consolidating epidemic control to speed up appropriate economic diversification.

The guests at the commemorative ceremony included Fu Ziying, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Liu Xianfa, Commissioner of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Macao SAR.
