Amman, 2 November 2022 (TDI): The 13th session of the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (SOFEX) started in Aqaba, Jordan on Tuesday.

It is a four-day event that covers a series of comprehensive seminars delivered by top military officials relating to terrorism and security issues.

During the exhibition, different types of the latest weapons and technologies in the field of defense were displayed. Armed Forces of various countries showcased their military, training, and technological capabilities.

It is to be noted that the current session of SOFEX is held after hiatus of four years due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year, almost 300 companies from 38 countries are participating in the event. King Abdullah II of Jordan inaugurated the exhibition.

Delegates from 98 countries were also present for the event. Jordanian Special Operations Task Force took part in a drill on the southern shore of Aqaba at the opening ceremony.

SOFEX General Manager, Ayman Batran while addressing the opening ceremony said that SOFEX has become a global hub to present new developments and specializations related to special forces.

Nael Shugeirat, the Special Forces Group Commander, said that the exhibition has played a significant role in strengthening cooperation in the defense industry globally.

King Abdullah II along with Hashem Bin Abdullah II also toured the exhibition and met with the representatives of the participating companies and received a briefing about the latest technologies used by elite forces worldwide.

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Major General Huneiti, General Intelligence Department Director; Major General Ahmad Husni and Public Security Directorate Director; Major General Obaidallah Maaytah accompanied the Jordanian King on the tour.

It is pertinent to mention here that, SOFEX, inaugurated in 1996, is a platform to present new equipment and technologies to provide swift-solution Special Operations and armed forces in maintaining peace and security in their country.
