Islamabad (TDI): President Asif Ali Zardari extended his congratulations to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and the Iranian people on the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.
In a message, President Zardari highlighted the deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Iran, rooted in shared history, culture, language, and geography.
He expressed hope that the “spirit of brotherhood” would continue to foster stability and prosperity in both countries as well as the wider region.
The president also conveyed his best wishes for the supreme leader’s good health and offered prayers for peace, progress, and prosperity for the people of Iran.

The Islamic Revolution of 1978–79 marked the end of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi’s monarchy and led to the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The movement drew support from a broad coalition of religious activists, secular nationalists, and leftist groups opposing the Shah’s authoritarian rule and perceived foreign influence.
After months of strikes and demonstrations, the Shah left Iran in January 1979. Exiled cleric Ruhollah Khomeini returned on February 1, leading to the monarchy’s collapse on February 11.

Later that year, a national referendum approved the creation of the Islamic Republic, introducing a new political system under clerical oversight.
In Iran, the anniversary is observed annually on February 11 with large-scale rallies, concluding the “Ten-Day Dawn” commemorations that begin with Khomeini’s return on February 1.
