New York, 22 September 2021 (TDI): Yemeni delegation headed by Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak participated in the inaugural session of the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations. Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak is the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of Yemen. The session is being held in New York.
Many government personnel, heads of state, and delegations are attending the session. Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General in his opening speech accentuated the contemporary challenges encountered by the world. He laid distinct emphasis on the issues of global warming, Covid-19, wars and conflicts, and natural disasters.
Abdullah Shahid, Maldives‘ Minister of Foreign Affairs and the present President of the UN General Assembly was also in attendance. He welcomed all the participants to the opening session of the 76th UN General Assembly. He enunciated the multi-faceted agenda of this year in the session. It includes deliberation upon issues of human rights protection, Covid-19 vaccines’ accessibility, climate change, and promotion of the UN’s role.
The theme of this year’s UNGA session revolves around the revitalization of the UN, respect for human rights, and reconstruction of sustainability. Apart from that, embracing resilience to recuperate from Covid-19 is also part of the agenda.
