Beijing, 13 September 2022 (TDI): President of China, Xi Jinping congratulated the 2022 National Conference on Development of SMEs, through a letter.

Vice Premier Liu He, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony via video link, and read the congratulatory message.

The 2022 National Conference on the Development of specialized and sophisticated small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) that manufacture novel and unique products began on September 8 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, East China.

Xi noted in his congratulatory message that SMEs are crucial to every household and have been a driving force in advancing innovation, facilitating employment, and improving people’s livelihoods.

He anticipated that the specialized and sophisticated SMEs that generate novel and distinctive products would be able to focus on and enhance their main business, allowing them to play an even more vital role in stabilizing industrial and supply chains and supporting economic and social development.

Xi also urged Party committees and governments at all levels to steadfastly implement the CPC Central Committee’s decisions and arrangements and to create a favorable environment for the development of SMEs.

He demanded additional measures to encourage the expansion of SMEs and enhance their confidence. Solid steps should be taken to boost enterprise innovation, strengthen intellectual property rights protection, and cultivate more specialized and sophisticated SMEs capable of producing unique products.

The conference was co-hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, with the subject “strengthen the foundation and consolidate the chain.”

Leading officials from key central government agencies and the Jiangsu provincial government, as well as officials in charge of SME affairs from provincial-level bureaus and representatives from specialized and sophisticated SMEs, attended the conference.
