Beijing (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin exchanged congratulatory messages on Saturday to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In his message, Xi described China and Bangladesh as “traditional friends and close neighbors” with a long history of people-to-people exchanges. Over the past five decades, he said, both countries have upheld the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, building ties that have endured despite shifts in regional and global dynamics.
Xi noted that recent years have seen deeper political trust, expanded cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, and growing collaboration across multiple sectors.
He pledged to work with Shahabuddin to use the anniversary as a springboard to strengthen traditional friendship, enhance mutually beneficial cooperation, and contribute further to peace and development in the region and beyond.

President Shahabuddin, in his message, highlighted the “profound friendship” forged over 50 years on the basis of respect, trust, and long-term cooperation, which he said had delivered tangible benefits for both peoples.
He praised China’s role in promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region, and expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to produce “fruitful results.”

Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Bangladeshi interim government Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus also exchanged messages to mark the occasion. Li emphasized China’s commitment to advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership, while Yunus lauded the steady growth of bilateral relations and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to deepening cooperation with China.
