Beijing (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping departed Beijing on Wednesday for the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima, Peru, where he will also pay a state visit at the invitation of Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra.
President Xi is expected to deliver a significant address at the summit, outlining China’s commitment to deepening reform, opening up, and enhancing Asia-Pacific cooperation.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning, Xi’s remarks will focus on China’s approach to implementing the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, driving regional economic integration, and fostering sustainable growth.
Peru’s capital, Lima, has embraced the “APEC moment,” with billboards and flags lining the streets to promote the meeting’s theme, “Empower. Include. Grow.”
Locals have warmly welcomed Chinese visitors, sharing their personal connections to China and expressing appreciation for the longstanding ties between the two nations, according to Global Times.

Ahead of the summit, APEC officials and Peruvian citizens voiced enthusiasm for the opportunities this gathering presents, particularly in advancing cooperation across the Asia-Pacific.
Carlos Kuriyama, head of APEC’s Policy Support Unit, noted the critical role China plays in regional and global trade, highlighting China’s free trade agreement with Peru as a model for open trade in the region.

Leaders from the 21 APEC economies, representing nearly two-thirds of global GDP and half of world trade, will address challenges like climate change, sustainable energy, and digital transformation.
