Tianjin (TDI): The World Technical and Vocational Education and Training League was officially launched during the 2024 World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference in Tianjin, China.
The league, after two years of preparations, aims to create a comprehensive, balanced, and inclusive international platform for vocational education.
The league’s inaugural members include 89 institutions from 43 countries and regions, encompassing higher education institutions, vocational colleges, enterprises, and educational organizations.
Notably, over two-thirds of the current members are foreign vocational education institutions, reflecting the global nature of the initiative, according to An Yan, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Education Association for International Exchange.
Muferihat Kamil, Ethiopia’s Minister of Labor and Skills, praised the league as a timely initiative that aligns with Ethiopia’s vision for global collaboration.

She emphasized that it provides a valuable opportunity to share best practices and build lasting partnerships that will drive skills-based development worldwide.
The conference, which began on Thursday, is being attended by representatives from over 100 countries and regions, including government officials, diplomats, and educators.

Discussions at the conference will focus on enhancing cooperation between enterprises and colleges, the role of vocational education in sustainable global development, and the professional development of vocational education teachers.
The event, which will conclude on Friday, is jointly hosted by China’s Ministry of Education, the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, and the Tianjin municipal government.
