London (TDI): A wildfire broke out in East London on Monday and led to the evacuation of several homes as the fire destroyed eight hectares in Dagenham. Meanwhile other two grass fires also struck in Hornchurch and Walthamstow Marshes.
Earlier, it was confirmed by the London Fire Brigade (LFB) that 20 fire engines and around 125 firefighters were called to the scene behind Clemence Road in Dagenham at 6.30 pm.
Footage captured by the drones and posted on X showed the aftermath of a grass fire, with large areas of grass turned into ash.
Station Commander Matt Hayward said: “The fire had reached some garden fences, sheds and garden furniture. As well as our jets, we used wildfire beaters to beat the flames and stop them from reaching the properties”.
It is reported that a wildfire response vehicle was deployed to the incident. These vehicles provide off-road capability, enabling the transportation of additional equipment closer to fires on open ground.

Firefighters tackled a fire where around eight hectares of grassland were destroyed in Hornchurch and around three hectares of grassland were destroyed in Walthamstow by fire. The fire near Hornchurch is said to be under control, as per the LFB.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said, “During the hot weather, it is important everyone acts responsibly to prevent fires from occurring. As the weather has been so dry, it only takes a few sparks to lead to a fire spreading rapidly. In London, this can be dangerous because so many of our green spaces lie close to homes and other properties”.
As per reports, investigations are still underway to find out the cause of the fire.
