Kabul, 16 January 2022 (TDI): The office of the World Food Program in Afghanistan received packages from the Government of Indonesia, on 9 January. WFP thanked the Government for the two plane loads of food to help feed families.

ORGANIZATION OF ISLAMIC COOPERATION RESOLUTION

Indonesia is one of the countries that support the roadmap that was part of the resolution of of the Extraordinary Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. The Extraordinary session was in Islamabad, Pakistan, in December 2021.

According to the Minister Retno Marsudi, the participants of the extraordinary session discussed the situation in Afghanistan. Marsudi mentioned during her annual press statement, that Indonesia was among the meetings initiators.

FURTHER STATEMENTS FROM THE INDONESIAN MINISTER

She also remarked that Indonesia’s position has always been consistent regarding Afghanistan. According to Marsudi, Indonesia wishes to see a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan.

Marsudi shared through twitter that the response of the Government to the at deteriorating situation of Afghanistan; at 4.30 this morning, 2 aircrafts carrying Indonesian humanitarian aid for Afghanistan were deployed to Kabul.

She then added that Indonesia keeps encouraging the Taliban to fulfill their international promises made in August 2021; such as respect for women’s rights. Indonesia’s focus during 2022 will be the Afghan women’s education and empowerment.

According to Marsudi that would be through effort like offering scholarships to the women. She noted the warnings of the UN regarding the situation in Afghanistan; which say that Afghanistan is facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world in terms of food, fuel, and liquidity.

ACTING FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER 

The Taliban appointed Amir Khan Muttaqi, as the acting foreign affairs minister of Afghanistan. Furthermore, according to Marsudi, Muttaqui mentioned that the country’s de-facto regime would allow women to pursue education and work.

Four months after that statement from Muttaqi, news reports emerged saying that Afghan girls couldn’t return to school and the Taliban only allowing women to work in certain sectors such as health.

Marsudi also remarked that Indonesia will continue to strengthen and contribute towards humanitarian diplomacy. For Indonesia, the safety and wellbeing of the people will always be the priority.

Marsudi deemed the resolution of the OIC to be important to address the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. According to Marsudi, the resolution includes some measures such as providing supplies of COVID-19 vaccines and drugs and stresses the eradication of terrorism in the country.
