Webinar on Educational Opportunities in Canada for Pakistani Students

Toronto, 7 December 2021 (TDI): The Consul General of Pakistan in Toronto, Abdul Hameed, hosted a webinar on ‘Educational Opportunities in Canada for Pakistani students. The webinar was held on 6 December.

In the session, other professionals also attended to give more insight into the opportunity. This included Member of the Canadian Parliament, Shafqat Ali, consultants, lawyers, public policy experts, and educational professionals.

Speaking at the occasion, Member of Canadian Parliament, Shafqat Ali, urged Pakistani students to consider Canada as a destination for higher education. He also said that the Canadian government openly welcomes international students. Moreover, there are plenty of opportunities to stay and live permanently in Canada after studying.

Additionally, the Consul General of Pakistan in Toronto, Abdul Hameed, noted that the Canadian educational system has various advantages. These include high-quality education, open and welcoming Canadian society, and part-time work for students.

Pakistan-Canada Relations: An Overview

Canada and Pakistan established diplomatic relations in 1947, after Pakistan’s independence. Both parties have representatives in each country. Canada has a high commission in Islamabad and a consulate in Karachi and Lahore. Pakistan, for its part, maintains a high commission in Ottawa and consulates in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Canada and Pakistan work together in human rights, climate change, development assistance, regional security and defense, transnational crime, trade, and development, finally governance and democracy.

Among these areas of cooperation, there are spheres of priorities where both parties are more focused. The priorities of bilateral relations are based on gender equality, polio eradication, and education.

More importantly, Canada is a country is known for its hospitality, and the opportunities it gives to everyone. It received 500,000 international students who choose Canada as a destination to study. Therefore, this webinar between Canada and  Pakistan depicts that both parties want to further enhance collaboration in the field of education.
