US donated additional Pfizer Vaccines to Bangladesh

Dhaka, 24 February 2022 (TDI): The United States of America delivered additional 6.2 million Pfizer COVID19 vaccines to Bangladesh. The shipment arrived in Dhaka on February 22 of this year. 

With this additional donation, the US stands with Bangladesh to reach the goal to vaccinate 70 % of Bangladesh’s population by the middle of 2022. Indeed the target to vaccinate 70 % of each country’s population is a recommendation that Bangladesh took from the World Health Organization. 

In February, Bangladesh received over 12 million doses of the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccines from the US. The donations have been made through the COVAX initiative. 

A total of 50 million COVID-19 vaccines the United States of America donated to Bangladesh. In addition, to the vaccines that help to control the pandemic, the US gave 121 million dollars to support the state. 

As well as in other places Bangladesh has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The country registered 1.938.135 confirmed cases from January 2020, numbers confirmed by the World Health Organization. 

WHO Bangladesh

The World Health Organization is the coordinator authority for health in the United Nations. The goal of this UN body is to reach the highest level for all the global population, and Bangladesh is part of this. 

Actually, the initiative of COVAX is a co-led enterprise of the WHO, with GAVI and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). 

The United States and Bangladesh Relationship

The diplomatic relationship between the United States and Bangladesh started on April 4, 1972. Both states cooperate in different areas cush security, governance, and development. 

The two states have representatives in their country, the US has its embassy in Dhaka. Bangladesh for its part has its embassy in Washington DC.

Both states share similar values that shape their interactions. For instance, the values are free, open, inclusive, peaceful, and secure Indo-pacific region. 

Apart from official relations, the US and Bangladesh are key partners in humanitarian assistance. For instance, the two are working to assist Rohingyas refugees in Bangladesh. 

In the Multilateral Area, both nations are part of similar international organizations. For instance, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the United Nations (UN), and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum.
