Islamabad, 07 August 2021 (TDI): German Ambassador to Pakistan, Bernhard Schlagheck visited Peshawar city this week and was amused to have a chance to explore the city and its great historical past. He explored the Peshawar Museum and was delighted to see how the museum was kept beautifully well. The ambassador also paid a visit to the old bazaar to see the structures still in great shape.
Ancient buildings with detailed woodwork amused and astonished the German ambassador greatly.
Peshawar is the sixth-largest city in Pakistan and is regarded as one of the oldest historical cities in the country as well as in South Asia as the recorded history dates back to at least 539 BCE.
The city has remained the winter capital of the great empires like the Kushan Empire and the Durrani Empire. Moreover, Peshawar also was an important trading center during the Mughal era.
The Peshawar Museum is famous for its collection of Buddhist artwork dating from the ancient Gandhara empire.
It is one of the largest centers of the Gandhara civilization in the world and also one of the popular museums in South East Asia.
