Karachi (TDI): The Ambassador of Vietnam to Pakistan, Pham Anh Tuan, expressed keenness to expand existing trade and economic ties with Pakistan, as the bilateral trade between the two countries is not far away from reaching $1 billion.
Ambassador Tuan, during his first official visit to Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), said, “the current trade volume stands at approximately US$850 million, and with concerted efforts, both sides are well positioned to achieve or surpass the US$1 billion target by the end of this year or next year.”
While highlighting the significance of strengthening institutional linkages and enhancing bilateral economic ties, Vietnamese Ambassador suggested that by increasing and advancing collaboration between Vietnam Chamber and Karachi Chamber, both countries can explore new areas for investment.

He also stressed the need for facilitating exchange of trade-related information on time, encouraging regular exchange of business delegations, and actively participating in each other’s trade fairs and exhibitions.
Ambassador Tuan expressed hope and confidence that with the cooperation of KCCI’s leadership and involvement of Karachi’s business community, the two countries will be able to enhance economic cooperation.
He emphasized that Pakistan and Vietnam must fully realize the potential of their bilateral economic relations.
Ambassador Tuan mentioned that despite the fact he took charge at the Embassy just ten months ago, he has been able to gain sufficient insight into Pakistan’s business landscape.
“I am highly impressed by the dynamism of Pakistan’s business community. During my tenure, I have had the opportunity to visit several chambers including those in Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and now Karachi,” he said.

He added that Pakistan and Vietnam can step into high-potential sectors including IT, minerals, seafood, and tourism.
“Vietnam has established itself as a major seafood exporter, and Pakistan, with its immense but underutilized aquaculture potential, can pursue joint ventures to facilitate technology transfer and export enhancement”, the Ambassador said.
“ASEAN is a $4 trillion market, but Pakistan’s trade is mostly limited to Indonesia and Malaysia. Strengthening ties with Vietnam can be our gateway into the broader ASEAN region,” he also added.
The meeting was also attended by the Head of Vietnam Trade Mission Nguyen Thi Diep Ha, KCCI Vice President Faisal Khalil Ahmed, former President Majyd Aziz, and members of KCCI’s Managing Committee.
