Beijing, 8 June 2024: Geraldo Alckmin, vice president of Brazil met with President XI Jinping on Friday in Beijing, to open a new era of diplomatic relations.
China and Brazil, according to Xi, are good friends and partners who share similar values and work well together. “In April last year, President Lula and I reached an important consensus on leading and opening up the new future of China-Brazil relations in the new era.”
Through cooperative efforts over the past year, the two nations have consistently improved pragmatic collaboration, strengthened strategic confidence, and closely coordinated on the global scene.
According to President Xi, this has effectively protected the interests of all emerging nations while also advancing their development.
In addition, China and Brazil share broad and common strategic interests as major developing nations and important emerging market economies.
Their relationship goes far beyond the bilateral level to have exemplary significance for promoting world peace and stability, as well as solidarity and cooperation among developing nations, said Xi.
President Xi stated that by realizing the strategic importance of their relationship, China and Brazil should deepen their mutual benefit, expand their scope, and develop new facets of their friendship.
China is willing to collaborate with Brazil to maintain more forward-looking strategic plans for bilateral relations, and fully utilize the China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee.
Moreover, to expand cooperation in emerging fields like innovation, the digital economy, and the green economy, and explore greater synergy between the “Routes for South American Integration” initiative and Brazil’s reindustrialization strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative.
As the two nations commemorate their 50 years of diplomatic ties this year, they should increase communication and collaboration in several areas, such as legislative bodies, political parties, local governments, culture, education, tourism, and youth.
Moreover, during the discussion, both sides agreed that China supports Brazil’s increased prominence in the global arena and its decision to host the G20 Leaders’ Summit this year.
To advance China-Latin America relations in the new age, Xi continued, China is also prepared to improve communication with Brazil and other members of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, said Xi.
According to Alckmin, the Brazilian government is prepared to strengthen the cooperation of development strategies with China and is dedicated to equitable and sustainable growth.
Brazil encourages more Chinese businesses to invest there and expand their collaboration in the areas of mining, agriculture, infrastructure development, new energy vehicles, and climate change adaptation, he added.

Alckmin pointed out that Brazil and China have enormous potential and numerous opportunities for collaboration, are dedicated to preserving multilateralism and free trade, and have similar opinions on a wide range of important topics.
Lastly, he continued by saying that Brazil is prepared to collaborate with China to improve multilateral and bilateral strategic coordination, elevate bilateral ties to a new plane, and contribute to the creation of a world that is more just, peaceful, and sustainable.
