Seoul, 13 September 2023 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov on his visit to South Korea met with renowned entrepreneurs of leading South Korean companies on September 12.

The timeline of the business tour dated September 10 to 12, where the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan along with his delegation also met with the South Korean Foreign Minister, Park Jin, and South Korean Prime Minister, Han Duck-soo.

Meeting with Chair of CGGI

On September 12, the Uzbek Foreign Minister along with his delegation met with the Chair of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), Ban Ki-moon.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to implementing joint projects, including within GGGI Uzbekistan Country Planning Framework for 2021-2025 and Strategy for Uzbekistan’s Transition to Green Economy for 2019-2030.

Both sides also discussed the results of ongoing projects between the two parties, aimed at reducing Green House gas (GHG) emissions, creating green jobs, increasing access to sustainable services, improving energy efficiency, and mitigating the effects of climate change.

Meeting with President of BOMI Engineering and Construction

Besides that, the Uzbek Foreign Minister met with the President of BOMI Engineering and Construction, Kim Deok-young on September 12, to discuss the ongoing projects of BOMI in Tashkent.

Both sides also discussed plans to expand the activities of the company in Uzbekistan.

Also, the Uzbek side welcomed the implementation of urban development projects in Uzbekistan based on advanced Korean technologies.

Meeting with Chairman of SK Group

The Uzbek Foreign Minister also held a meeting with the Chairman of SK Group and the head of the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry(KCCI), Chey Tae-won to discuss the prospects of enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The fields of cooperation include trade, investment, energy, and innovation.

Apart from that, both sides agreed to further strengthen their partnership and explore more opportunities for future collaborations.

Other Engagements

In further efforts to vitalize economic diplomacy, the Foreign Ministers of both countries launched the Strategic Dialogue between the Foreign Ministries of Uzbekistan and South Korea.

In the first meeting of the Dialogue, both sides aimed at strengthening mutual trust and close partnership in various fields, but special attention was paid to enriching economic diplomacy with tangible results.

Furthermore, the Uzbekistan-Korean Business Forum was also organized in Seoul with the participation of more than 300 representatives of leading companies from both countries.

During the forum, it was notified that joint projects worth about $13 billion are currently being implemented in Uzbekistan and the number of businesses operating in Uzbekistan with the participation of South Korean capital has doubled over the past 4 years.
