Singapore City, 17 January 2023 (TDI): The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, visited Singapore for a state visit on January 17th, 2023. During the visit, he met with the President of Singapore, Halimah Yacob, & Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

An official welcoming ceremony was held at the Istana Palace, where a guard of honor was presented and the national anthems of both countries were played.

The President of Singapore honored her counterpart by naming a new variety of orchids after him. It is noteworthy that orchids are a traditional symbol of high respect and honor in Singapore.

During the bilateral meeting, the leaders discussed the prospects for further deepening relations between the two countries, specifically in the areas of reforms for the democratization of social and political life.

They also deliberated upon cooperation in the field of education, and regional cooperation and integration in Central as well as Southeast Asia.

The two sides also expressed mutual understanding and support on international platforms in promoting initiatives for regional stability and sustainable development.

On his part, the President of Uzbekistan also held talks with the Prime Minister of Singapore, during which they discussed the current state and prospects of their cooperation and the positive dynamics of their relationship.

They identified five key areas for future cooperation, including the development of human capital, training of highly qualified personnel, urban planning, infrastructure development, and the promotion of tourism.

Aside from that, the two sides also emphasized the potential for practical cooperation in various industries such as electronics, chemicals, biotechnology, banking, logistics, and transport engineering.
