Tashkent, (TDI): Uzbekistan is actively expanding its global cooperation in ecology and environmental protection, as evidenced by a series of high-level diplomatic meetings aimed at tackling urgent environmental challenges.
Aziz Abdukhakimov, the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, recently convened with ambassadors from various nations to explore partnerships and joint initiatives.
In a discussion with Korea’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Won Do Yong, both parties celebrated the successful conclusion of a collaborative project with the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI), aimed at improving solid waste management systems in Uzbekistan.
Minister Abdukhakimov underscored the new horizons of cooperation, highlighting potential collaborations with Sejin G&E Co. Ltd to harness alternative energy from landfill gas.
Further discussions with Morocco’s Ambassador Muhammad Adil Embarsh revealed Uzbekistan’s interest in bolstering cooperation in tourism and streamlining visa processes.

The dialogue also touched on plans to sign a memorandum of understanding focused on environmental protection ahead of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP29).
Uzbekistan, Georgia Solidify Agreement
In a separate engagement, Uzbekistan and Georgia solidified an agreement to collaborate on environmental legislation, impact assessments, and the promotion of ecotourism.
Georgia has been invited to contribute its expertise by providing lecturers and professors for training programs at the Central Asian University of Environmental and Climate Change Studies in Samarkand.
During a farewell meeting with Egypt’s outgoing Ambassador, Amira Fahmy, Uzbekistan emphasized key environmental reforms implemented under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
These reforms include the afforestation of the Aral Sea’s former seabed, the national “Yashil Makon” (Green Space) project, and the establishment of a climate center under the president’s office.
Uzbekistan expressed gratitude to Egypt for its support in environmental initiatives and reaffirmed the significance of ongoing knowledge sharing.
